Arvind Kejriwal: Jail bell! Kejriwal’s last day out of jail, today’s hearing will decide AAP’s future

Delhi, 1 June 2024: Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal had on Thursday filed a bail plea in the Rouse Avenue court. He had also filed a separate petition seeking seven-day interim bail on medical grounds.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s one-week interim bail plea is likely to be heard on Saturday.

On May 10, the Supreme Court had granted 21-day bail to Arvind Kejriwal for campaigning. He was also ordered to surrender on June 2.

On May 30, Special Judge Kaveri Baweja had directed the Enforcement Directorate to file a reply to Kejriwal’s plea by June 1.

The interim bail granted by the Supreme Court ends on June 1. At the same time, the court had directed the ED to file a reply to Kejriwal’s regular bail plea in the case by June 7.

The Supreme Court registry had last Wednesday refused to list Kejriwal’s plea immediately, seeking extension of his interim bail by seven days to conduct certain medical tests. The registry had said that the petition was not maintainable as he was allowed to approach the trial court for regular bail.

Aap’s Kejriwal had sought extension of interim bail for several medical tests, including PET-CT scans, in view of “sudden and unexplained weight loss as well as high ketone levels”. Increased ketone levels can also indicate kidney, serious cardiovascular disease and cancer, he said.
