Nashik Crime News: Two Arrested in Former Mayor Abdul Malik Firing Case; Attack Stems from Commercial Dispute

Malegaon, 28 May 2024: The shooting of former mayor Abdul Malik Yunus was the result of a business dispute, according to police. A joint team from the local crime branch and city police solved the case within 16 hours, arresting Sheikh Mansoor Bashir alias Mohammad Mansoor (21) of Aishanagar and Khalil Ahmed Abdul Razzaq (40) of Mhalde Shivar.

The incident, linked to a land deal dispute in Mhalde Shivara, involved multiple shooters. Additional Superintendent of Police Aniket Bharti revealed at a press conference on Tuesday that CCTV footage led to a second case against Farooq Patel and two others for firing pistols at those who initially attacked Abdul Malik.

The two arrested suspects were presented in court and remanded to police custody for four days. The attack on Abdul Malik occurred in front of Supreme Building Material on the old highway. He sustained three gunshot wounds to his leg, arm, and rib. After surgery at a private hospital in Nashik, his condition is improving.

Sheikh Mansoor Bashir and Khalil Ahmed Razzaq face charges under the Prevention of Attempt to Murder Act and the Arms Act, based on a complaint by Malik’s friend, Rihan Sheikh Salim (40), of Imdadnagar. An additional case was filed by Assistant Police Inspector Dnyaneshwar Thorat against Farooq Patel and another suspect for public endangerment and violations of the Indian Arms Act.

Following the crime, police presence in the city was significantly increased to maintain order.
