Pune – The schedule of qualifying examination for the post of professor in the state i.e. Maharashtra set is likely to be announced in the last week of November. Recently 38th set exam was conducted in March 2023. Candidates are upset as the sets are not announced even after September ends. Now their wait is over and the exam will be announced by the end of November, said the member secretary of SET. (sppu news today)
State Level Eligibility Test (SET) is organized by SET Department of Savitribai Phule Pune University on behalf of the State Government with the approval of University Grants Commission. More than one lakh students from across the state participate in this exam which is held in 17 cities. This exam is conducted for a total of 71 subjects in all faculties. Along with eligibility for the post of Assistant Professor, this exam is also considered for PhD admission. (sppu news) So all the post graduate degree holders across the state apply for this exam.
6.59 percent students qualified in the set examination conducted by the university in March 2023. One lakh 19 thousand 813 students from Maharashtra and Goa had registered for the exam. One lakh one thousand 257 students appeared in the exam. Six thousand 676 students had passed out of it. More than one lakh students are likely to take the exam this year as well.
What is a set?
The University Grants Commission has made it a condition for the post of assistant professors in senior colleges and universities to pass the qualifying examination along with a minimum degree. In Maharashtra since 1994 State Eligibility Test or SET is organized by Savitribai Phule Pune University. There is no provision for scholarship in set examination.
Eligibility for the set
– The subject in which the candidate has completed post graduation. He can give the exam of the same subject.
– If set examination is not conducted in a Master’s degree subject, examination of any other subject related to that subject may be conducted.
– Exam can be given through two mediums English or Marathi.
The result of set exam conducted in March 2023 has been announced recently. Now the detailed schedule of the next set exam will be announced in the last week of November.
